My Swim Coach Is Ted Bundy pt3

If it is not clear enough by now, I am running out of ideas. Well that’s not true. I have ideas, I just can’t think of titles for them. Anything titled with “My Swim Coach is Ted Bundy” is now going to just be me talking about swim.

I have a feeling I’m going to be ranting a heck of a lot soon. Practices were supposed to start yesterday, but the Lowell Tech closed today and yesterday so it didn’t. And if GD doesn’t have school they can’t force us to go to practice. Because funny story, did I mention that our swim team is combined with Tyngsboro? I can’t remember if I did or not. Well it is, and the coach is a math teacher there. So that’s why I can’t speak to him in person and must wait for him to return my emails at a snails pace. If I had wanted it to take more than two days to get a response, I would’ve contacted him via SNAIL MAIL not E-MAIL, an already inconvenient communication method.

This swim season is going to be interesting to say the least. I’m not sure what our coach expects from us, but my only goal is to try and have a good time. It’s my last season. I want to have fun. I don’t care if I drop the 4 seconds I wanted to drop, or if I finally break a minute on my 100 free. These are all things I should’ve been able to do if I was swimming regularly. But I’m not. So I want to just enjoy the time I will have with my friends.

Not that that is going to be easy.

I’m not sure if our coach can make anything fun. The other captains and I had a meeting to discuss things we wanted to do on the first day. It mostly consisted of us learning each others names and teaching everyone the basic rules so no one was confused at the first meet or in the first practice.

Usually we throw new people to the wolves, expecting them to “figure it out” but not everyone knows what all the strokes are, so we need to start at the basics.

He shot us down unfortunately. So now I’m not sure when we’re going to do that, because we will be swimming in practice so we can’t tell the new kids what to do.

I’m expecting this to go a lot like it did last year. He will stone wall us by not responding and just throwing us in the pool as soon as we get to practice so we never have time to talk to him.

Also in an email he sent out he called Julia Kay the “team captain”. Now this wouldn’t have caused a problem with me had he mentioned the other captains too. See Julia one of the most amazing people I have ever met. She is basically the diving coach, she organized carpooling and put together the team store. She was also a captain last year, and she deserves the title of “Team Captain” because she is the most motivated and the most experienced and definitely the most helpful.

But here’s what really grinds my gears, he made it seem like she was the only person who did anything. And I’m sorry, but we had a meeting to get all of the stuff we wanted for the team store. We designed the shirts together, we picked out the merch we wanted together, we designed the placement of the logo and name together, I came up with the cheer, Sam made the list of the things we wanted to accomplish the first day. The rest of us do stuff too.

And the rest of the team don’t even know we’re captains too. I just think that’s slightly unfair. It also scares me a little, because Nabo kind of did that and I wasn’t sure whether or not I’d be captain the first day of practice.

I’m also kind of worried about certain other seniors who weren’t named captain at the end of the season last year. (another thing is I’m afraid he forgot his decision) Because one of them, who will remain nameless, is really heckin bossy. She’s the type to pretend she’s captain even though she isn’t and talk to the underclassmen as though she has power over them. The worst is when she spreads information that is completely false and then we have to go back and tell everyone what’s actually going on.

I am stressed.
